Tiger nuts, one of the most popular superfoods on the market, are not actually nuts. These wrinkled, marble-sized spheres have a flavour that is evocative of both coconut and almond, and they get their name from their tiger-striped appearance.

Tiger nut milk, also known as Kunu Aya in Hausa, Horchata de Chufa in Spain, and Atadwe in Ghana, is a drink prepared from yellow nutsedge or earth almonds (Cyperus esculentus).

They can be eaten raw from the ground, roasted, cooked, or juiced. Tiger nuts in packages have been dried to make them shelf-stable; they are also available as tiger nut flour and tiger nut milk.
