1. Avoid Smoking
Don’t smoke. Cigarette smoking causes about 80% to 90% of lung cancer deaths in the United States. The most important thing you can do to prevent lung cancer is to not start smoking, or to quit if you smoke.

2. Avoid secondhand smoke

8. Get regular medical care
Regular self-exams and screenings for various types of cancers — such as cancer of the skin, colon, cervix and breast — can increase your chances of discovering cancer early, when treatment is most likely to be successful. Ask your doctor about the best cancer screening schedule for you.

9. Avoid sex risk
Reduce your risk of HIV infection by using recommended protection. This avoids the risk of having lung cancer.
